The Problem
Housing instability due to eviction has been a long-standing issue for renter households, particularly for Black and Hispanic women and families with children. According to HUD, landlords do not pursue evictions equally across households. The national eviction rating rate was 1:20; for Black renters, it was 1 in 11.
The Supreme Court's decision to block the eviction moratorium was a major blow to the millions of tenants across the country who have no other aid.
A study found that almost 15 percent of American children born in large cities between 1998 and 2000 had experienced an eviction by age 15. Imagine how much that percentage will increase in the next year alone if nothing is done to help them.
